The discovery of the Iguazu Falls

Iguazu Falls
The first white man to see the Iguazu Falls was the Spanish navigator Alvar Nuñez Cabeza de Vaca in 1542.

Also responsible for the operation of Florida in the United States of America, Cabeza de Vaca discovered the falls by accident when looking for a way to take him to the Assumption.

The discoverer narrated the discovery in his diary: “The river gives heels for a huge cliffs and the water hits the ground with such force that very far away you hear the noise,” reported. Unfortunately, he had little time to watch the spectacle. His navigation was stopped and he had to cross the falls quickly, the bush for fear of being attacked by hostile Indians.

In the early 20th century, the Falls had one owner, the farmer Uruguayan Jesus Val, who boasted of having the falls in the backyard of his home. That quirk cost him dearly. The aviator Santos Dumont made a visit to the then Town Falls in 1916, and would be disgusted with the fact that natural beauty has owners. He left there promising steps and three months after the government expropriated the area.

In recognition, Dumont won a bronze statue in pride of place in the Iguaçu National Park, which would be created only in 1939.

Refreshed water of Niagara Falls

Iguassu Falls

Iguassu Falls

Few things are so wonderful – and sometimes even frightening – to be admired as the phenomena of nature. They say the force of water, fire, wind, is something that surprises and brings us closer to our inner selves. True or not, the fact is that you feel the force of Niagara Falls – present in the Brazilian and Argentine – is very refreshing.

In Tupi-Guarani, the word “charter” means “big water”. Formed through a gap in the ground, the falls are about 70 meters high and 2,800 feet wide. In the rainy season, the sound of water can be heard miles away. The sound scary, but also charming.

The most popular with tourists is called Garganta del Diablo (background in photo above), in the deepest crevice of erosion of the falls, after a grid and rapid curve. The shape resembles a horseshoe.

Who does not want to just observe, but “feel” the force of the falls, you can make the traditional Macuco Safari. This is a ride that is done in-engine boats that take tourists up to about five meters from the Devil’s Throat. Another option – more daring – is the rafting. With a duration of about thirty minutes, the brave receive guidance to navigate the rapids and need not be experienced in sport.

Iguassu Falls

The Iguazu National Park hit a record of visits in a single day, this holiday Children’s Day and Our Lady Aparecida. The park received 12,388 tourists on Sunday. The mark surpassed the registered on 14 November 2004, when the PA has received 10,901 people.

The record reached on Sunday shows that the city moves toward a recovery of tourists in this period after the worst international economic crisis and swine flu, experts say. The head of the Iguaçu National Park, Jorge Pegoraro, estimates that as of now the trend is high in tourism.

As control of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) on Saturday, the office recorded the entry of 7204 tourists, on Sunday 12,388 people, on Monday, 4602 visitors – a total of 24,194 people in three days of the holiday.
